Coming off a 2nd place finish at last season’s 2014 USACFC Club Championships, the Men’s team started their season with the Temple Open in Philadelphia. The tournament is an individual tournament that traditionally marks the start of the collegiate fencing season. This season the men’s team features three seniors, Captain Sabreist Matthew Laks, Sabreist Steven Pochapin and Epeeist Mike Peraza. The team’s composition is very young, with 4 new freshmen starters along with three returning sophomores, suggesting long term success for the team moving forward.

At Temple Open the men had a number of very strong individual performances led by senior sabre fencer Steven Pochapin, who placed 6th in men’s sabre out of over 100 other contenders. Additional strong performances came from freshman Eric Cho, who placed 13th out of over 90 other fencers, and Jake Silverman who finished in the top-16.

The team portion of the season started On November 15, at the Dan Arnstein ‘91 Invitational at Haverford College. At the meet, the team faced Haverford College, Rutgers University, and Lafayette College. The team went undefeated on the day, winning 20-7, 19-8, and 18-9, respectively. Freshman foilist Eric Cho posted an overall record of 8-1, while freshman sabreist Ben Goldman went 7-1.

The team hopes to continue its undefeated season at the next dual meet on February 8, 2015 at Johns Hopkins University where they will fence against the College of William and Mary, University of Virginia, University of Maryland, Johns Hopkins University, and the United States Naval Academy. If any alumni are in the area, the men would love to see your support.
