On November 19, the Cornell Men’s Fencing Club travelled to Haverford College and competed at the first MACFA meet of our schedule. We went undefeated beating Haverford College, Johns Hopkins University, University of Maryland College Park, William and Mary, and University of Virginia. We had not defeated Haverford in 2 years.

Men’s Sabre went undefeated as a squad, losing 4 bouts individually (41-4). Foil went undefeated as well losing 8 bouts as a squad. Epee went 2-3. Notable performers were senior foilist Nick Heiner (14-1), junior sabrist Zach Silversmith (10-1), sophomore sabrist Matt Joe (13-0), freshmen sabrist Matt Laks (10-1), and freshmen foilist Alex Cheng (12-3). Senior epeeist Bryan Mills led his squad with a 9-6 record.

This meet marks a career achievement for one of our fencers when Senior Mike Fotinatos won his 100th career victory. He is the second current member of the team to reach this milestone, following senior foilist Nick Heiner who leads the current team in career wins.

The men’s fencing club returns to action on January 29th at Cornell University with the MACFA A roundrobin, where they will fence Drew University, Rutgers University, and Lafayette College.
