This weekend the Cornell Men’s Fencing Club traveled to Madison, NJ to the first MACFA meet of 2009. After a long day, the Red emerged victorious with a 4-2 record against the MACFA B division. Cornell defeated Drew University, Lafayette College, University of Maryland, and Saint John’s College.

The team lost to Stevens Institute of Technology and Rutgers in close matches.
The foil squad was undefeated; losing only 10 bouts (out of 54) on the day. The sabre squad also had a great day going 4-2 with 2 9-0 victories and one 8-1 victory. Epee faced some tough squads and had some close losses. They went 1-5 and look to improve against the rest of MACFA. Overall it was a successful weekend with good fencing and good results.
The next competition, the Garrett Penn State Open, looms this coming weekend with the promise of some of the strongest collegiate fencers from around the country. The Big Red will resume its MACFA schedule in the Spring semester.
