The Big Red fencers drove down to the College of William and Mary to fence at the MACFA Championship tournament, competing against 12 other varsity and club programs.  The defending champion foil squad of Nick Heiner ’12, Trevor Ertel ’12, and Mike Fotinatos ’12, were able to secure another top finish, bringing home their second consecutive MACFA foil title.  The saber squad, consisting of Zach Silversmith ’13, Benjamin Jaeger ’13, and Jason Kowalski ’13, narrowly missed the bronze medal position, falling short only by indicators to Rutgers.

The foil squad managed to promote both Fotinatos and Ertel to the individual round.  Ertel managed to go undefeated on B-strip while Fotinatos emerged the top foil C-strip, dropping only one bout to Hunter.  From saber, Zach Silversmith was promoted from the A-strip bracket while Benjamin Jaeger missed promotion by mere touches scored (he had tied for 3rd place on B-strip in both victories and indicators).  While Fotinatos and Ertel were eliminated in their first direct elimination match to the eventual gold and silver medal finishers, Silversmith managed to win his first DE into the semifinals.  Falling to eventual gold medalist Zack Brown of Rutgers, Silversmith managed to secure an individual bronze for his efforts.
The Epee squad (Dan Pearlstein ’14, Bryan Mills ’12, Tim Gao ’12) was unfortunately missing two of its top competitors, Zen Yui and Dave Smith, but fought hard but managed to post a total of 13 wins on the day.
