On February 19th, the Cornell Men’s Fencing Team traveled to Drew for their 3rd competition of the year. The team competed against Lafayette (Div I) and Drew (Div III), Rutgers, The College of New Jersey, and Marist College. Overall, the team closed out the day 3-2, beating Lafayette (14-13), TNCJ (18-9), and Marist 25-2, but losing hard-fought matches against Drew (12-15), and Rutgers (12-15). The foil team led the way, going undefeated, with an overall record of 31-12. Freshmen epee fencers Kevin Wang and Eric Hu put up particularly impressive performances for the foil squad, racking up quite a few wins despite not fencing their main weapon.

Freshman sabre fencer, Chris Mulvaney comments on this, as well as the team’s exceptional focus, throughout the day: "I was very impressed with the adaptability the team showed. Everyone fenced very well, with several in unfamiliar weapons, yet the team pulled together to score three victories. I was particularly impressed with the team during the initial match against Lafayette, as multiple fencers scored victories from behind for a 14-13 win,"

Freshman epee fencer Gabe Lane echoed Chris’s sentiment saying that "the team came together to work through each obstacle, despite a long and exhausting event. Morale stayed high through victories and defeats alike."

Junior Foil Fencer Michael Mauer states his optimism for the rest of the season: “I was really proud of how the team stayed focused and intense throughout the day, despite many fencers not fencing their primary weapon. I could really see the things we work on in practice paying off in the competition, so I’m excited for our final two tournaments this semester.”

For their last tournament before spring break, the team travels to Johns Hopkins University this weekend for MACFA Championships.
