On Sunday, Mike Fotinatos and Nick Heiner fenced the North Atlantic Junior (U19) Sectionals in Rochester, NY. With 56 competitors, it fell a little short of being an A4 event. Early in his pool Fotinatos suffered an injury to his hand that lead to the development of a massive blood blister, making parries a painful proposition. He soldiered on and finished the pool 3-3.

The Cornell Men’s Fencing Team travelled to Lafayette College this past weekend to compete in the MACFA Championships. Going into the championships, the Big Red was ranked 6th in MACFA with Nick Heiner ‘12 ranked 3rd overall in Foil. The Championships are now run IFA style such that each team fences every other team during the day. Each fencer fences one bout per school, so there are 9 bouts per match. The top 4 A-Strip Fencers, top 3 B-Strip fencers, and top C-Strip fencer all qualify for a direct elimination individual round for each weapon.
